Tyler Perry is bringing together some of gospel music’s most celebrated voices for The Gospel of Christmas, a new Netflix holiday drama starring Fantasia Barrino and R&B singer Tank. The film is scheduled to premiere November 11, 2026.
Written and directed by Perry, the film centers on Isaac Jefferson, a struggling pastor who inherits his family’s church in a troubled New York neighborhood. As he faces personal doubts, temptation and a formidable adversary, Isaac must rediscover his faith and the power of prayer to save his church, his marriage and his community.
Tank, whose real name is Durrell Babbs, portrays Isaac, while Fantasia plays his wife, Rebecca. The story explores the challenges of maintaining faith and family while trying to preserve a church that means so much to its surrounding community.
A Star-Studded Gospel Cast
The film features an impressive lineup of gospel artists, including CeCe Winans, Shirley Caesar, Yolanda Adams, Fred Hammond, Smokie Norful, Hezekiah Walker, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Ann Nesby, Jekalyn Carr and The Clark Sisters. R&B vocalist Chanté Moore also joins the ensemble.
Kirk Franklin serves as music producer, overseeing a soundtrack that blends contemporary and traditional gospel with rap and holiday music. Music is central to the film’s storytelling, helping underscore its themes of faith, perseverance and spiritual renewal.
For Perry, the project draws on music that helped him through difficult periods in his own life. In Netflix’s official announcement, he described the songs and artists as an important part of the film’s inspiration.
The project also reunites Perry with Fantasia, who previously starred in his 2023 musical adaptation of The Color Purple. The singer has spoken about Perry’s mentorship throughout her career and the personal significance of taking part in a Christmas-centered story that reminded her of her late grandmother.
With a cast that brings together generations of gospel talent, The Gospel of Christmas aims to put the Black church, the power of prayer and the importance of community at the center of its holiday story.
‘The Gospel of Christmas’ premieres November 11, 2026, exclusively on Netflix.
