Ben Affleck is opening up about the use of artificial intelligence in filmmaking, revealing that AI was used during production of his upcoming Netflix thriller Animals.
Speaking at Bloomberg’s 2026 Screentime event, Affleck said he used AI “for lots of things” while making the film, though he did not reveal exactly how the technology was used. He said doing so could affect the movie’s “illusion of reality.”
Affleck has said he views AI as a filmmaking tool rather than a replacement for creative talent. Animals stars Affleck alongside Kerry Washington, Steven Yeun and Gillian Anderson.
The film, which Affleck directed and co-wrote, follows a Los Angeles mayoral candidate whose son is kidnapped. Animals arrives on Netflix October 9, following a limited theatrical release.
