Gospel music icon Kirk Franklin gave listeners an early look at his latest collaboration with GloRilla during a recent appearance on Joe and Jada with hosts Fat Joe and Jadakiss.
Franklin premiered his new single “This Time,” featuring GloRilla, during the September 22 episode of the show. The collaboration marks another meeting point between gospel and hip-hop for Franklin, who has spent more than three decades incorporating contemporary sounds and influences into his music.
During the conversation, Franklin also reflected on his musical roots, including the influence of hip-hop artists such as the Ghetto Boys and Scarface on his approach to gospel music. He discussed his career, collaborations with secular artists and his perspective on bringing people together through faith and music.
“This Time” follows Franklin and GloRilla’s previous collaboration, “Rain Down on Me,” which also featured Maverick City Music. The new track is expected to continue Franklin’s ongoing blend of gospel and hip-hop as he prepares for his next musical chapter.
