NASA is preparing to send astronauts back toward the Moon with Artemis II, its first crewed deep-space mission in over 50 years. The mission is currently scheduled for no earlier than April 2026.
Following the success of Artemis I, Artemis II will carry four astronauts—Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen on a 10-day journey around the Moon aboard the Orion spacecraft, launched by the Space Launch System.
The mission will not land but will loop around the Moon’s far side, testing life support systems, communications, and overall spacecraft performance with a crew onboard. Artemis II is a critical step toward Artemis III, which aims to return humans to the lunar surface and lay the groundwork for future missions to Mars.
